Malakwa Community Association Meeting March 23, 2023

Sandra Northway updated the work being completed on the malakwa.ca website. James Morris has recently updated the site. The site may look a bit different, but the historical photos and facts have been preserved. Check out the new look! Thank you to James for his excellent work on the site.

Upcoming events:

April 8th – Malakwa Preschool will be celebrating their 40th anniversary with a celebration held at the preschool. Festivities will begin at 2:00 p.m. Everyone is welcome.

May 6th from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm – A spring cleanup will be held at the Malakwa Cemetery. Please come out and help, many hands make light work! Bring a rake, shovel, broom or leaf blower. If you can transport a wheelbarrow to the site that would be very useful.

Thrift Shop – The Malakwa Thrift Store will reopen in June, Thursdays from 10:00 – 4:00. The Thrift Shop was able to donate $800.00 to the Resource Centre in January from their sales in 2022. Thank you to all the volunteers.

Fire Department – The Malakwa Fire Department in planning a 35th anniversary celebration event. Watch for more details coming soon. The firemen continue to practice on Tuesday evenings at 7:00 pm, they welcome new members.

Malakwa Gospel Church reported that they have had good attendance at Souper Saturdays., as well, Teen Night has steady attendance.

The next Coffeehouse is planned for Saturday, April 22 at Malakwa School in Room 5 beginning at 7:00 pm. Plan to attend, bring your musical instrument and enjoy an evening of socializing and good music. Refreshments are provided. Donations are welcome.

Yard Creek Campground will reopen on May 17, 2023 and will remain open until September 6, 2023. Check out the malakwa.ca website for information on camping, trails, rates, etc. If you have further questions please e-mail yardcreekcampground@gmail.com

Malakwa Community Association is pleased to sponsor a 2023 scholarship in the amount of $500.00 to a graduating Malakwa student attending Eagle River Secondary. The graduation ceremony will take place the first Friday in June at E.R.S.

The Malakwa Library is open each Saturday from 11:00 – 2:00. Come to the library, have a visit with Jim Knox who volunteers to keep the library open and check out a good book!

Watch for upcoming information on Music in the Park at the Malakwa Centennial Park planned for August. Audrey Stremick has plans underway to hold this popular annual event.

Community Learning Centre – a new lease has just been received from School District #83 and will be reviewed.

A reminder that Malakwa Community Association meetings are held the 4th Thursday of each month in Room 5 at the Malakwa School. Meetings begin at 7:00 pm and all community members are welcome to attend. Thank you to Vicky McCuaig for chairing the meetings and Astrida Knox for recording the Minutes each month.
